Higher fees push profit up at eBay |

EBay, the online auction company, on Wednesday reported that its profit rose 52 percent in the first quarter after it raised fees on items for sale and held more auctions outside the United States.
Net income climbed to $377.2 million from $248.3 million a year earlier, eBay said. Excluding some expenses, eBay earned 33 cents, 3 cents more than analysts estimated.
Revenue increased 27 percent to $1.77 billion with a weaker dollar and demand in Western Europe stimulating results internationally. Last year, eBay more than doubled fees for merchants selling goods at fixed prices to reduce clutter on its site. A higher percentage of listings subsequently are leading to sales.
