Duke Energy plans 2 gas plants, sees higher coal plant costs |

Duke Energy Corp said on Tuesday it plans to build two natural gas-fired plants in North Carolina and sees higher costs for its planned coal-fired plant.
Chief Executive James Rogers told Reuters Duke Energy plans to seek approval to build 1300 megawatts of natural gas-fired plants. The two plants will likely be built on existing sites in North Carolina.
Rogers also said he sees "slightly higher cost" for the company's proposed 800 megawatt coal-fired power plant in North Carolina. Duke is in the process of finalizing its costs estimates for that plant, according to Rogers.
