Wall Street Journal - Sep 28, 2010 |
U.S. consumer confidence improved slightly overall in the week ended Sunday, according to an ABC News index, after falling three points in the prior week. But confidence among higher-income respondents was the highest since November 2007.
The overall reading rose one point to -45 on its scale of -100 to +100. That matches its average this quarter. The average reading has been below -40 for the past 10 quarters in a row, although the long-term average is -13.
But among those with annual household incomes of $100,000 or more, the index was at +21 compared with a -4 rating at the end of August.
Among all those surveyed, the percentage viewing the national economy and their personal finances positively did not change, but 27% saw the buying climate as positive in the latest survey, up from 25% a week earlier.
